TRUST EVENTS

The Trust has also partnered with organizations that are feeding the destitute - Meals on Wheels program and sponsoring children monthly expenses at PRATHYASHA - Home for HIV affected children. We are providing financial assistance to Mellow Circle who on voluntary basis distribute food packets to destitutes, homeless, aged and the sick people in some areas of Chennai. We also provided financial assistance to Prathyusha - a Home for HIV affected children for their daily medicinal needs.

DB90 Trust selected the DB Institution at Yelagiri to kickstart its social activities in March 2017. Our team visited the Institution and had a first round of discussion with the Principal to understand the needs of the school and who we could participate and contribute. We were glad that the first meeting with the school and students gave immediate results; 8 students were selected on the criteria of good academic performance but from a lower strata society. FOr these 8 students, scholarship was provided for the academic year. TrustDB90 has been reviewing the performance of these students the year on year and suppporting them.

This visit was followed up with a medical camp to evaluate the health of students and advice and provide medical treatment and medicines as well.

A medical camp was conducted in Yelagiri DB institution on February 2018. A team of Doctors with their assistants were driven down to the institution.

General Health check-up, Dental & Eye sight were tested.

The findings were quite alarming - most of the students were mal-nutritioned and needed more healthy food / supplements. Oral health care needed to be advocated. Being at higher altitude and due to cold climatic conditions, the studnets were falling ill due to common allergies and skin related ailments. As a result, DB90 decided to supply the necessary supplements and other items required from then.

The Trust also gave out scholarships to Don Bosco Egmore students on the Kamaraj Dhinam and during the Past Pupils AGM. Under privileged special Children from Don Bosco Special Schoool were sopnsored to a movie show, that gave enormous joy to the children.

As promised, DB90 trustees visited the DB Yelagiri institution for review and selection of further deserving students who needed financial assistance. It was happy to note that the earlier students had performed well and only a few of them would require assistance this year.

There were a fresh list of deserving students selected by the Principal based on our criteria. In all, the Trust ended up sponsoring the academic fees for 15 students. In our interactions, we found that the English speaking ability of the students had vastly improved and were at par with any other city bred students.
